I’m a journalist studying at Boston University who’s passionate about storytelling. I got into journalism because of its power to change the world through writing. I wanted to use my talents to make things better, even if only for one person. By bringing attention to issues that usually go ignored, I want to educate and inform the public.

I grew up in the suburbs of Boston drinking Dunkin’ and shoveling snow. I decided to stay in Boston for college because I’m just crazy and masochistic enough to want to stay and suffer through even more terrible winters by choice. I wrote for my middle school newspaper and made the front page in eighth grade for my coverage of a mock trial held in study period. My high school didn’t have a newspaper, so I promptly forgot everything I knew about journalism until it came time to apply for schools and choose my major. (I’m a little proud and a little embarrassed to say that the Broadway musical Newsies was also a factor in that decision.)

What I admire most about journalism is the advocacy tradition; I’ve seen firsthand how a well-written and researched story can change people’s lives, even the world. I find the history of muckraking and yellow journalism fascinating, and I am excited to see how the traditions will change and grow in response to the age of the Internet. Who knows: maybe I’ll be able to contribute to it someday.

I also write for BU Culture Shock as a copy editor and EdTech Times as an editorial intern. Follow me on the social media accounts below!
